how is the weather north of whangarei?
i know it's sub-tropical - but what does that look like, FEEL LIKE?
i've been living in the desert for 16 years - not even sure i'd recognize a raindrop if i saw one.... |

you'll have to get used to a few raindrops!
http://www.whangareinz.org.nz
This website includes a section on living in Whangarei and its climate, including its 1600mm/63 inches of rain a year! You'd better invest in some wellies and a raincoat! Don't worry, I'm sure your son will have a fab time playing in the puddles as do my children!!
Here are a few more local (northland) websites that may be of interest.

thank you for the info, amanda!
i even know what wellies are!
funny that you would mention the puddles!
every morning we go out to step in the 'puddles' at the apartment complex we've moved into (we've already sold the 'farm'!!) - a 'puddle' here is some leftover water from the sprinkler system on the sidewalk!
yes, boys will be boys no matter where!
(when it's 100' Fahrenheit here - then we have to make our own puddles with a few drops from a little water-squirt bottle. my son has one for that very purpose!)
today i told him we're be going to puddle land
