Hi,
I have read a few posts on LTBV's as my wife, me and 2 kids are looking in to moving to NZ to buy a B+B or guest house/cafe, my first thoughts were no way would we get a LTBV as I am in the financial sector managing 30+ staff and have been for 15 years, prior to that was in catering for 2 years, bar work and waiting on tables. My wife is a qualified chef, but is currently traning as a learning assistant for junior schools. She has also been working in her fathers Pub p/t doing snack food and catering for small wedding/funeral/birthday parties. The kids, well they just do kid stuff.
So my initial thoughts were generally centered around my skills and I thought well thats not going to work, and after talking with the boss I realised maybe we might have the skills needed (well my wife does) even though we do not have our own business.
What do you think, would we have a chance? After selling up we would have about NZ$600,000.

Hi there
NZIS will look for a history of 2 years in control of a business, staff, marketing, finance and operations, middle management does not usually make it in their eyes despite the fact that many can succeed in real life.
If "in catering" measn owning thecatering business, that's Ok, but if it was hired labour basis, not OK.
NZIS said yesterday that they are trying to sort out classification of qualified chef for listing on Occupational Shortage List, so that might make it easier for her to get to NZ with a job offer and you ride alongside
On the other hand, if your business unit turned over A$10 million and you were in charge of wide ranging operations or policy for that unit, you MIGHT qualify for State Sponsored Business Owner visa for Australia.
If you send me a PM/email with your email address, I'll send you an assessment form and guide you as we can. |
