One reason for shipping is that you would have to sell (for little cash) givcve away or worse, scrap a load of stuff.

This then needs to be replaced at the other end.

If it is junk, then dont ship it, but much of our stuff isnt. We are also attached to various bits n pieces, etc

So we are moving some, things like beds we will buy when we arrive.

Let personal common sense rule.:)

Confused I'm still having issues with this one.

I'm not attached to my cooker, fridge, washing machine, etc but i am attached to my Fijian war club, masks and a picture of a turtle made from mulberry bush, i have just been reading another thread and it seems MAF may have issues with these items as they are made from untreated wood, humph, just when you think you have it all worked out, bam! Confused

Also if there are any like minded people out there who just took sentimental items, in hindsight is there anything that you now wish you'd bought with you? or if you shipped out everything perhaps you now feel there was no need, i'd be really grateful to know, i realise i've already asked this but still feel i'm not sure, sorry to bore you all with my worries if you have read this before. Confused Confused

Hi Lisa,

We brought a wooden giraffe carving that was a gift from africa which no one questioned at all. That was about the only 'dodgy' thing we had. It was packed in a box with photos etc by the movers so MAF wouldn't have even known it was there. The only things they inspected were mountain bikes and BMX.

Sure I've put this somewhere before but we are one of the ones who 'brought it all'. In hindsight I would have left the portable TV and possibly the main tv as it has a funny glow in the corner which apparently is due to being set for a different hemisphere!! Everything else works as it did in the UK. (tip- if you bring a front loading wash machine use half as much powder as you did in the uk or it bubbles out of the front, done it twice so far!)
Because we really did bring everything, theres nothing extra I wish I had brought. If we had decided to leave/sell a lot of stuff I think I would have struggled to replace it quickly enough with moving to a new country, finding somewhere to live and starting work etc!! It's been hard enough replacing little things, still have no microwave pots and been here 2 months.
If you're worried about being without your stuff when you get here, just time it right when you send it from the UK. We decided it would be easier to live in the UK with no stuff than here in new country so sent stuff 4 weeks before we left UK and borrowed off friends and family then only had 2 weeks to wait here. Easier if you dont have kids.
Hope that helps, probably just confused you more, it's different for everyone.

Lauren, if you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost to ship 'everything'?
