You will understand that I have some passing interest in the political scene. New Zealand currently has a Labour government that needs the votes of smaller parties to stay in power. I wonder if it bothers anyone that Labour;
Is keeping the non-nuclear policy. Nuclear vessels are banned from its waters which means the US has abandoned its defence alliance with New Zealand.
Has disbanded the fighter wing of the airforce.
Has legalised prostitution.
Is proposing to make smacking children a criminal offence.
Is going to make smoking effectively illegal in most public buildings apart from designated, ventilated rooms.
Has some sympathy with the Greens who want to legalise cannabis.
Have broken more ties with Britain by replacing the privy council with a New Zealand supreme court. (The concern is that the government appoints the supreme court and New Zealand is such a small country that all the legal bods know each other so independence of the supreme court will be a fiction.) In the UK it's possible to take appeals to the European court away from the British legal scene and funny handshakes.
Any thoughts about whether you like these measures?
Power to the people!

| I got the idea when i holidayed there that nobody gives two hoots about politics as long as the suns shining, the barbies hot and the beers cold. Policticians are rotten everywhere IMHO. |
