Hi Everyone
Would like to hear from anyone who knows about the Taranki/New Plymouth area - my husband has had a job offer and it looks like we will be moving there. The house prices seem very good - we aren't looking for city life - just a nice place to bring up the kids. It looks really pretty on the websites I've looked at. Would love to hear from anyone with first-hand experience.
Thanks a lot

Hi Linandave
We looked at Taranaki, New Plymouth as a possible area to live, and it was a tough choice between there and Christchurch. We choose Christchurch in the end, mainly cause we didnt have a job offer at the time and we didnt know if the cheep house prices were a reflection of the wages.
Taranaki is beautifull, and the people were incredibly friendly. When you walk down the street, people will actually say hello.!! The weather was nice even in May, and the beaches were lovely. If your looking for a nice place to bring up the kids, I dont think youll go far wrong with New Plymouth. Its very quiet, and I dont think its a major tourist area. Plus there is Pukekura Park (I think I have spelt that right).
Hope this helps

Hi Wilson
Thanks for that - really good to hear of your experiences in New Plymouth - such a big thing to move to a place where you've never been before and just hearing your opinion has made a difference. Hope it's going well for you in Christchurch.
Thanks again,
Kind regards

HI YA.
we found new plymouth very nice on our tour around the nz last october,we spent a few days in the area,my two young chidren loved the black volcanic sand on the northern part of town, they at first though it was dirty having never seen sand like before, but once they realised they were off digging away.
plenty of shops, a great indoor swimming pool, right near the beaches.
and because off shore they drill for oil and gas the local economy looks safe for a few years yet to come, which should mean good work allround.
plus just to the north of new plym, is new zealands only micro brewery, called "MIKES MILD" if you like your real ale, this is a great brew!
the mt taranaki is one great looking volcanoe, though it was a bit misty when we took a drive up it, and if you have ever watched "the last samurei" apparently quiet a bit of the filming was done in this area, the volcanoe resembles that mt fuji whats its name in japan.
so whilst doing your shopping, you are tredding in the footsteps of mr tom cruise.
quiet full of useless info arn't i, but on a more serious note you should like the area . |

Hi lin and dave
We too are looking at Taranaki, the view of the volcano is absolutely stunning. What we need to know is if there are any big main dealer garages where my husband could work (he's a mechanic). Obviously I'm still looking, but if you find anything along those lines, would you mind letting me know?
Thanks, Laura |
