where to live???

hello everybody!! we only recently stumbled accross this forum and have found a lot of the information invaluable. we will be moving to nz in september 2004. i am a mental health nurse and john is a fitter/turner. we have been told that we will have no problems finding employment but are still unsure about where to go. our first choice is the east coast of the north island, hawkes bay, bay of plenty or the coromandel but have been told that property is quite expensive in these areas. one agency has recommended palmerston north or masterton, however, looking at the climate of the region or more importantly the rainfall (we're coming from ireland.....need i say more) we are kind of worried. we also have a six year old daughter to consider so if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated. ps we have checked out various real estate sites and the property doesn't seem too bad(compared to here) thanks again!! We're counting the days!! cool

Are you going over to NZ to look for jobs whilst you are there or have you secured jobs already?

hey moorf!
we have more or less secured jobs already, just trying to decide which ones and in which area. we,re going on a 2 year visa initially but as soon as we start work over there we will start applying for residency. hopefully we might succeed as both occupations are on either the skills shortage or priority occupations Clapping

fingers crossed we should be arriving there in september Nice One

Forgive me for my ignorance - can we apply for work visa once on hols there as visitor? If so, what do we need ? Plus, how long does it take to get a work visa these days? Is there a quickest route? I.e to London in person?
