Hi all,
Can anybody tell me whether or not it is worth shipping our white goods. We have a new washing machine, new fridge freezer, cooker that is 3 years old (gas) and a tumble dryer(not that concerned taking this).
Please could you put me right on these goods. What about TVs Hi Fi`s and playstations?
Sorry but what about deep fat fryers? is this worth taking.
Thanks to all for answers in advance

Hi Kim
If all of what you'd like to bring is fairly new I think most of us here would recommend that you bring them along...subject to how much you want to spend on shipping as they are quite heavy and bulky.
We had to give up some very nice appliances since we were coming from the U.S. and they wouldn't work in NZ. My wife was NOT happy! We did bring our refrigerator as it will work with a transformer and we are replacing the rest and doing our part to keep the NZ economy humming.
As UK appliances will work here (240V/50Hz) you'll just need to get mains (electrical outlet) adapters and you'll be all set. You can bring adapters with you or buy them here for about NZ$10 to $15.
Your TV's may or may not work here. UK TV signals are PAL I and in NZ they are PAL B. With PAL I you'd have a picture but no sound here. (That might not be all bad based on some of the TV programming here! ) Some sets have the ability to handle several PAL signals so check your owner's manual (provided it's in English ) or with the manufacturer. Their websites often provide some good info. I've heard of some people converting the tuner, but I've also heard it's expensive and not worth it. We had to leave our 55 inch rear projection wide screen behind because in the U.S. they broadcast in NTSC which is completely incompatible here unless you buy expensive adapters and even then the picture still isn't up PAL standards. I was the one crying about that!
Your "Hi-fi" should work fine here (again it will need an electrical adapter). I'm not a Playstation guru, but I think if you do a search (see link above) you'll find an answer. I think it will work but don't quote me on that one.
One caveat is that some items may not fit the space you'd like in your new home without some construction modifications. Most of the appliances here are smaller than elsewhere. (I still crack up when I see the clothes dryers here...they look like toys! )
It's nice to have a lot of your "own stuff" when you arrive...makes it feel a little more like home. |
