Hi Moorf and Woz

Didn't realise you hadn't been to NZ, neither had we last time, as in we got the visas jobs etc and had never set foot there.

Last time we went my Mum was finding it hard and I was dreading telling her we wanted to go back but they have been brilliant, incredibly supportive. I put it down to they came out saw where we were living fell in love with the country and now know why we are so desperate to return. I'm sure when your parents visit, and if they are saying they wont now I'm sure they will change their minds once you get there, they will love the place to.

What we regret most in life are the chances we never took, got that from the last episode of Frasier although he admittedly only moved from Seattle to Chicago !

Michelle - thats what makes it so annoying - we have family friends in Blenheim and my parents spent a month over there a few years back and LOVED it.. in fact they say that if they could retire there they would do so tomorrow...

I guess they are just sad to see us go but, quite frankly, I was put in boarding school from 11 to 18 and haven't lived local to my parents since for any amount of time and have just come back from 6 yrs in Scotland!!

Maybe we can lure them with promises of long visits (which would be great fun cos my parents are such a good laugh) - pity we can't do anything about shipping them to NZ as I have a brother with family in Sussex.... he ALSO wants to move to NZ!

Oh boy....

It will always be hard with family, I know mine will be upset, but I also know they will come over - and sometimes in this day and age we need to be a little bit selfish to achieve our goals.

I can cope with everything to do with moving, change of jobs etc but my Mum and Dad are really getting to me. I am going to miss them so much, last time we saw them but not that regularly but about 5 years ago we moved very close, in fact about 30 seconds walk away. As your Mum and Dad would retire out there so would mine but its not easy, they have 3 years to wait and then there is the medicals to get through and they are in their lates 60's.

I have worried and worried about everything that might happen, saw the trauma it caused to others when we were there before. Never bothered me being an only child until now when I would give anything to have a brother or sister.

I really hope your parents come round to the idea, but in some ways it makes it so much harder because they are just thinking about me and I feel like I am just thinking about myself.

Right will get off this thread now, have a good cry and open a bottle of wine. Thank heavens for this forum.

You will have to change to the male view on shoes.

1) Buy two pair of shoes, one smart one casual
2) Wear the required pair based on situation
3) When a pair becomes to smelly or fall apart replace them

We can aford to go then :)

Check out the air cargo rates you can get a good discount for excess baggage sometimes up to 50% off!!!!! Nutcase That should be enough to finance a trip to your favourite boot-ique Yes

Oh Moorf forgot to tell you, and I think Susan mentioned it, stock up on toiletries. I have a cupboard bursting at the seams with stuff, had to tell the shipping guy that I intended to take them all and he looked at me like I was mad. Have convinced my husband that he needs more than 2 pairs but it took years !

Other things to stock up are....... wait for it woz...... underwear, jeans, anything smart, anything casual, everything except walking gear.and wooly jumpers.

The sales are on now, get shopping.

One of the reasons for me being attracted to the prospect of Living in NZ is the very laid back way of life. An example that was given to me and that i took on board was that things are so laid back, Kiwis can be found shopping in supremarkets bare foot.
All you lot are talking about is shoes!
I'm handing my shoes in to Oxfam the day i book my plane tickets! Nutcase

Incidentally, Asda & Tesco shoes are good for the price, but i really won't miss them.

Me too, i can't wait to get back to basics, go bare foot, even the kids in NZ go bare foot to school, this is what i love about the Kiwi's, fashion too just isn't at the top of their list of must haves Smile Smile

Well I did manage to shed most of my fashionista ways when we moved from London to Perthshire - nay... FORCED to - and I must say its nice not to worry about latest fashions and my wardrobe does consist of loads of fleeces and jeans already!

I'm just taking the mick! I'm really not that shallow!!! But please, don't expect to see me at the fish counter shoeless!!! Are they REALLY that laid back?!!
