| We didn't necessarily leave the UK for a lot of the negative reasons that have been expressed on this thread. Rather having travelled and having previously lived/visited NZ and other countries before coming to NZ one draws comparisons and makes choices based upon ones life experiences. For us NZ offered a bettter way of life and greater opportunities. However there are wonderful things about the UK that will be missed and are so quintessentially British that you will not find them anywhere else in the world. I still love the UK particularly our history and cultural heritage......but I choose to live in NZ. Sure the usual suspects will always be mentioned about the UK like the appalling climate, crime, politics etc.... But you will find bad weather, crime and bad politics in NZ as well! To sum up we were not running from the UK ......more running TO NZ. |

Having another chuckle - I will admit to NEVER having been to the supermarket barefoot!! However, I did begin to wonder if I'd lived in the UK too long when I was worried about what I was wearing into our local shopping mall recently. At home I'd go out to the shops in my jeans, trackie bottoms or whatever - no worries!!
As to why we're leaving the UK. Well, I'm from NZ and still think of it as home. I've been incredibly homesick since our two children were born. And we live in south-east London - I really, really, really don't want my kids talking with a Bromley accent (arghhh!! - sorry if I offended anyone, it isn't intentional - just with a West Country dad, a Kiwi Mum and South-East London kids it could it get a bit messy!! )

| The one big thing we noticed in Nz was that people take you as you are and are open and friendly regardless of how you look,(and I tend to go scruff order most of the time). |
