Hi Ikeraam

I would contact as many recruitment agencies as possible. They will know of employers who are willing to take on migrants. They will also help with things like CV's (we were told that Kiwi's like long detailed CV's as opposed to the cram everything onto one page as is here in the UK).

If your wife's job is on the OSL or the PSL ( I imagine they are if in telecommunications) she will be issued her work permit very quickly (my husband's took 2 hours) as no job survey is required. It is worth explaining this to prospective employers.

Hope this helps. Stick with it, I know it can very dis-heartening.

Good Luck and I hope it all works out for you,

Hi Rebecca

When you say that your husband got his work permit issued within 2 hours - where did he do this and in what order ? i.e. did he have his interview and tell the employer he could get his permit within days/hours? Or did the employer give him the job on the possibility of him getting a work via?

Hi Rebecca/Moorf

I'm pretty sure you can't get a work visa without a convincing offer of employment first. I presume your husband was offered employment BEFORE applying for his work visa.
Worth pointing out that employers are more likely to offer jobs to overseas people is they are on the OSL/POL because
a) it will be much easier for them to get a work visa (E.g. no labour survey needed)
b) by definition, there will be a shortage of NZ people available.

Hi guys,
My husband is now preparing everything for his trip to NZ (holiday. Hopefully, he can get a job offer while there. However, we still have some unresolved issues.

1. If his qualification is not in OSL/POL, how long does it usually take to get a permit?

2. Where do I see the list of the so-called accredited employers?

Thanks for the usual support.

Hi guys,

I went to the Emigrate 2004 show this weekend and the NZ Immigration guy who took the seminar said that if you are applying for a job that you will use as your job offer in your SMC application, the employer doesn't need to do a job survey or go through any red tape with the Immigration department.

He said that most NZ employers weren't clear on the process involved in taking on migrants, and many believe that if they employed a migrant there would be lots of red tape and immigration paperwork to go through. But apparantly not if it's a job you will be applying with through the SMC.

I hope this helps! Nice One

Yep to get the points it only has to be a valid job offer and nothing more, but try getting an offer that will hold long enough for a) Your EOI to be picked from the pool and then b) Still be there whilst you go through your application once picked.

This is why although on the surface the new process seems fair that unless NZIS are going to "fast-track" people with job offers it is all very pointless.
