I am hoping to be accepted as a mature student to Victoria University in Wellington. It looks like my wife can also enter and stay on a student visa (although she won't actually be studying, she will be staying home looking after the kids). My question is, I know I am permitted to work in NZ on my student visa (subject to certain restrictions) but can my wife also work (subject to the same restrictions)? If not, why not?
Second question (sorry that just keep popping into my head as I type), assuming I am offered a place at Victoria, is it safe for me to assume that I will definitely be granted a student visa (subject to satisfactory medical, police checks etc)? Or could there still be a nasty surprise waiting for me courtesy of the NZIS?
