Graham - our thoughts too - as long as we're not sponging off of NZ social security (or whatever) I thought we'd be okay but it seems not!

Moorf

I was wondering along the same lines as Graham. Its almost certain I'd be in the same position as you, and I WANTED to go contracting.

If I have to get a permanent job, I think even with a PR/visa, at my age it isn't easy

I hope it works out for you one way or another.

Mmmm, I'm not sure about the contract thing. You would think they'd allow it as many people spend their whole career contracting.

Anyone else have any idea if a contract over the 3 months will be enough for NZIS to ratify PR? fingers crossed

Hi,

Just a pointer.

http://www.immigration.govt.nz/nzis/operations_manual/6360.htm

Contract basis employment would not be a problem as far as requirments are satisfied.

Reading the whole section from the above:

"Employment must be ongoing. Ongoing employment is employment that is either:.........
.........employment on a contract basis where the applicant has one or more contracts totalling at least twelve months and has provided evidence of an employment history that includes at least two years of contract work.one or more contracts totalling at least twelve months and has provided evidence of an employment history that includes at least two years of contract work."

This implies that a short term contract would not fulfil the requirements. No

MMMM

Screws me, as I have only ever had one contract - I am in it now, and it has only been for just over a year. I could let it run for 2 years, then my points would reduce again because of age.

Very Puzzled

This is all so confusing - dammit we're going anyway and that's that!

We'll speak to Immigration once we are there in PERSON - their website is just so convoluted it's hard to get a straight answer!!

Got to keep the stress levels down so I'll just have to quit worrying - and it's not helping that we are quitting smoking at the same time Rolling Eyes

You can't quit yet - you're supposed to be meeting me at Singapore airport on the roof by the sunflowers so that we can enjoy a ciggie and a Clink
