you've got guts mate - good luck to you. Nice One

i guess that anything that you need in your home country, you'll need to provide in nz. they won't slacken their requirements just because you've made it to the shores of godzone.

Hi, redido,

Hats off to you for jumping cannonball into the pool! I'm sure you all will do fine and your job search will be successful in the manner you propose.

My own situation is a bit different as I am married to a NZ native and it is a simple matter for me to apply for and receive a work permit allowing me to enter the country as the partner of a NZ citizen (please resist all temptation to throw rotten fruit!). I will apply for PR once we have entered the country, and I had the same question as you. In speaking with the very helpful immigration official at the NZ consulate in Los Angeles, I was told that all police checks and medicals could be accomplished from within NZ after we have arrived -- and applying for PR within NZ is cheaper, too. We had the option to apply for my PR from the US, but the process takes about 9 months and costs nearly twice as much, versus applying for a work permit which takes 2-3 weeks and costs nothing.

Hope this information helps, and best of luck to you all! - Rae

Hi

We are travelling on work visas.

You don't need medicals or police checks to get a work visa, only for PR. No point getting checks and medicals till ready to apply for PR as they have to be issued no more than 3/6 months prior to initial application so will be out of date.

We are planning to obtain ours from the UK whilst in NZ just before applying for PR.

Hope that helps.

L.
